2007 Events

During 2007 the Northfield Conservation Cooperative organized educational and recreational activities to help Northfield citizens learn about and gain appreciation for our town’s wonderful resources.

Presentations included:
• June – Northfield Wellfield – presentation by Eric Swiech from Applied GeoSolutions about where our water supply comes from, and how we can protect it.
• July – Hike in the Northfield village-owned forest “Dustin’s Pasture” to learn about this town resource and acquire information for developing a management plan.
• July – Educational presentation by County Forester Russ Barrett on tree identification and measurement, and principles of proper forest management for timber production, wildlife enhancement and recreational opportunities.
• August – Dog River presentation by George Springston of Norwich University and Doug Burnham of Vermont Agency of Natural Resources on river geomorphology, biomontoring, and river protection.
• September – Hike up Paine Mountain (Village Forest) to learn about this town resource and acquire information for developing a management plan.
• October – “Jewels of the Northern Forest” presentation by Bridget Butler of Vermont Audubon Society about the Forest Bird Initiative which supports land owner efforts to enhance and protect bird habitat.
• November – Rich Kirn of Vermont Fish and Wildlife presentation on the fishes of the Dog River: their life histories, habitat requirements and recreational value.
