Dog River Geomorphic Assessment

In October 2007 the Town of Northfield on behalf of the Conservation Commission was awarded a $35,750 grant from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, Water Quality Division, to conduct a geomorphic assessment of the Dog River from Roxbury, Vermont to Montpelier Junction.  The consulting company selected to conduct the geomorphic assessment (Bear Creek Environmental, Inc.) completed its field work during the summer of 2008.  Members of the Commission and public participated in an informational field day in July 2008 to learn about the river and the assessment process.  The consulting company's final report will be submitted in early spring 2009, and will offer recommendations for ways the river can be managed to prevent the threat of flooding, support recreational activities, and enhance habitat for fish and wildlife.
A public informational meeting about the report's findings was held on March 25, 2009.
